How often do you give up on a book?

I just gave up on books twice within a week. I rarely stop reading a book, especially when I buy it at full price. The offensive tomes in question:
Dies the Fire. I made it 200 pages, then couldn’t take the Wiccan references every other page. I didn’t care for any of the characters. Plus, I found the convenience of the plotting too, well, convenient.

The Ruins. Just put this one down after 150 pages. I rarely read reviews before I finish a book, but after the tedious pacing of this one, I decided to scan amazon to see what everyone was saying. 791 reviews, 250 1 star reviews. You can’t always trust amazon reviews, but this evidence was enough to allow me to give up.

Now, back to Stephenson’s Quicksilver, a book I shouldn’t have put down in the first place.

What are books you couldn’t finish?
